My name is Ruby Calger and I am a 16-year-old equestrian from Westport, Connecticut. For over 7 years, riding has been an integral part of my life. I currently ride with Val Renihan at Findlay's Ridge.
I have competed in the hunter, jumper, and equitation rings with great success. Some of my most notable accomplishments include Champion at the National Horse Show in the Under 14 Equitation where I was first and fifth in the over fence classes. Additionally, I finished 10th in the USHJA Hunt Seat Medal Final with a first round score of 87. I have recently stepped into the jumper ring and have enjoyed every second of it. I have quickly moved up to the 1.15 and have goals to compete in the 1.20-1.25 classes in the near future.
Outside of the show ring, I enjoy the quiet moments spending time with and taking care of my horses. I am always happy to help others in the barn and can often be found cleaning extra bridles or helping with turnout. I believe being around the horses on the ground directly translates to understanding your horse in the show ring.
I take my academic pursuits seriously and maintain a 3.6 unweighted GPA. I am often an Honor Roll Student and am enrolled in higher level classes. With math and science being my strengths, I want to pursue an Animal Science degree and career.
I aim to blend my love for horses and competing at a high level with my academic goals, hoping to ride for a Division I college team. I believe my strengths in and out of the saddle will prove to be valuable to any collegiate team I pursue.
